The University of Jaén has its background in the University of Baeza, founded in the Modern Age. The current University was also built on a twenty-year experience in the academic field which, broadly speaking, dates back to the "Holy Kingdom" University College. Here began the teaching of undergraduate degrees and, after the creation of the corresponding Faculties by the Andalusian regional government, were converted into full degree courses.

Since its creation over ten years ago, the University of Jaén has managed to respond to the demands not only of its students, but of society in general, thanks to its decided support of the institution for quality, both in the teaching of its courses and in the improvement of infrastructures and increased scientific production.

The academic courses at the University of Jaén focuses on a programme of over 50 qualifications, high-tech equipment, laboratories, a library with access to over 480,000 digital publications, exchange programmes and student mobility in over 60 countries, internships in over 550 companies, an Employment Unit with two job advice schemes and modern sports facilities.
