The European University of Madrid (UEM) is a private institution belonging to the Laureate International Universities Network, an organisation which groups private universities from around the world and which share a common goal of achieving educational excellence and sharing programmes in order for students to benefit from studies in other places, which constitutes a firm commitment for educational internationalisation.
The UEM is a young institutions and is notable for study programmes which aim to meet social demands, and stress the personal development of each student (education is considered to be all-round). As part of the courses on offer, there are programmes for developing personal and professional skills, and the learning process and the student are at the centre of the University's methodology.
The University uses a series of strategic lines in addition to its educational model, based on the European Space for Higher Education, striving for academic quality, Bilingual teaching, an appropriate environmental policy, the importance of the use of technology, insistence on practical training, Social Responsibility and international strategies. These strategies are clearly listed by the University and include "personalised attention", "the use of innovative teaching methods", "the use of international experiences offered by the university networks to which UEM belongs", and the "ongoing improvement based on establishing a quality system which can determine the expectations and level of satisfaction of different groups."
The University facilities are mainly based at the campus in Villaviciosa de Odón, a town situated 20 kilometres from Madrid, which houses most of the European University buildings; the Moraleja campus; and the University Clinic in the centre of the capital.
