University of Cordoba » Overview of the Institution

Set in a city with one of the richest cultural traditions of our country, the University of Cordoba was created in 1972 and within just a few decades has managed to establish itself as one of the key universities in the Andalusian region and the whole country.

Its dynamic nature, it facilities and its level of research have led it to become an institution of "teaching quality and clear scientific solvency", and it attracts thousands of students to study its degree courses, internal courses and ongoing training programmes. Its courses in the area of Agriculture and Food, and its wide range of studies, which cover diverse areas of learning , are some its major strengths. In order to continue to strive for maximum quality, under its Strategic Plan 2006-2015 the university proposes, above all, "reinforcing its role a social leader and working of the promotion of critical thought".

Originating from the Free University created in Cordoba in the 19th century, this institution currently brings together a number of centres, divided between three campuses: the Rabanales campus, mostly focused on Engineering, and home to the Higher Polytechnic School, the Higher Technical School of Agronomists, and Forest Engineering (ETSIAM), the Faculty of Veterinary Science and the Science Faculty; the Menéndez Pidal Campus, where all health science-related subjects are taught and home to the School of Nursing and the Faculty of Medicine; and the Humanities and Legal and Social Sciences Campus.

The Humanities and Legal and Social Sciences Campus, with buildings in several areas of the city, includes the Faculty of Educational Sciences, Employment Sciences, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts. The UCO facilities are completed with the Rectory Building, in the former Faculty of Veterinary Science; and the Polytechnic School at Bélmez, a town some 60 km from the capital.
