Cardinal Herrera-CEU University » Overview of the Institution

The Cardenal Herrera CEU University is one of the three universities belonging to the San Pablo CEU Foundation, together with the Abat Oliba CEU University and the San Pablo CEU University. Although not recognised by law as a private university (the first in the Autonomous Community of Valencia) in 1999, it has been a centre of learning, associated to the University of Valencia since the early 1970s.

Developed by the Catholic Propaganda Association, the University is run on the principles of Christian Humanism and the social doctrine of the Church, and it understands the education of its students to be rounded and complete, working on student's skills from an intellectual, human and social viewpoint.

Quality and excellence are two of the fundamental bases of the Cardenal Herrera project. In order to maintain both, there is a continuity programme for students, who are presented with a demanding and interactive teaching method, emphasising daily effort and the completion of research.

The tutorial system is fundamental of this concept of teaching: students have a personal tutor for the first two year, in addition to a practical tutor, an international tutor for those who opt for a study period abroad, and a group tutor. This combination of theory and practice is further consolidated with the use of New Technologies and the requirement of language skills, as an English test must be passed in order to continue on to the second part of degree courses.

The facilities of this young university are structured around a number of centre, part of the Faculty of Experimental and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences, the Higher School of Technical Education and the Ángel Ayala CEU Institute of Humanities, where most teaching activities take place. The centres are located in the towns of Moncada, Alfara del Patriarca, Valencia (Valencia) and Elche (Alicante).
