Catholic University of Avila » Overview of the Institution

The "Santa Teresa de Jesús" Catholic University of Avila, better known as the Catholic University of Avila, is a young religious university, created based on the Bishop of Avila's Decree of 28th August 1996. In the following years, the University consolidated its structure. Its courses received official recognition through a number of Decrees published in the Official State Bulletin in 1999 and 2000.

In its mission statement, the University highlights its commitment to the development of knowledge, human rights, the doctrine of the Church, a high-quality education and qualified teaching staff, and to scientific research as part of its project.

Its educational model is based on five points, as follows:

• "The educational model of the Catholic University of Avila is inspired by Christian Humanism".
• "....It offers the student an all-round education, combining culture, studies and research, and a solid, high-quality academic, professional and human education inspired by the values of the Gospel".
• "...It proposes modern and flexible teaching, adapted to the social and employment demands of our times, and to the intellectual concerns of each student".
• "It combines teaching with the involvement of the student in his/her own education through:
  a) A tutorial system, which attends to the student's academic needs in a personalised manner.
  b) A staff/student ratio which allows direct contact of tutors with students".
• "It strengthens the integration of the student in a town declared Heritage of Humanity"
