Universidad de CádizCreated in 1979, the University of Cadiz draws on the educational traditions of the province of Andalusia, the main example of which was the Royal Naval College of Surgeons. This institution was highly relevant from its creation in the mid 18th century and one of its distinguishing features was the development of scholarship scheme for its most outstanding students.

The university facilities are located in a number of different campuses: the Cadiz Campus, the Algeciras Bay Campus, the Jerez Campus and the Río San Pedro Campus in Puerto Real. The first houses the majority of the Faculties and Schools of the University of Cadiz, including the Faculty of Medicine and the Senior School of Engineering. The Rector's Office is also located on this campus. On the Algeciras Bay Campus we find the Algeciras Higher Polytechnic School and the Algeciras University School of Nursing. The Jerez Campus is home to the Faculties of Law and Social Sciences and Communications. Finally, in Puerto Real includes, among others, the University School of Naval Technical Engineering, the Faculty of Nautical Science, and the Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences.

From its beginnings, this Andalusian public university has worked hard on the improvement of its facilities and on achieving a high standard of quality. In approximately 15 years the institution constructed, among other building and infrastructure, a new Philosophy and Arts Faculty; a Business Science and Economics Faculty; an Employment Science Faculty and a Health Sciences Faculty at the Cadiz campus. The Higher Andalusian Marine Studies Complex. In addition, work commenced on the Asunción Campus at Jeréz de la Frontera; the Integrated Information Technology Centre - at the Puerto Real campus, the Health Sciences school at the Algeciras Campus, and the new Campus at Jerez was opened.

Internationalisation is strong at the University, above all under the framework of the European Space for Higher Education. As regards the course on offer, there is a strong emphasis on studies relating to the Sea and the Environment, with centres dedicated to Marine research.
