The current University of Burgos has it most recent background in the Ascribed University College created in 1972 and the Integrated University College (CUI) created in 1982, both part of the University of Valladolid. Burgos gradually gained ground as a university city, until in 1994 it was officially recognised as a university.
After this, the University embarked on a period of growth. With its facilities divided between the San Amaro and Río Vena Campuses, this public institution works to improve the quality of research, encourages relations with businesses and the completion of professional work experience, includes New Technologies and virtual learning platforms in its teaching methods, and promotes internationalisation efforts.
The San Amaro Campus (King's Hospital) houses the Science Faculty, the Law Faculty, the Faculty of Humanities and Education, the Faculty of Business Science and Economics, the "La Milanera" building and the Higher Polytechnic School. The King's Hospital, located on the campus, is a building dating back to the end of the 12th century, although the original structure has been refurbished over a number of centuries. It is currently home to the Law Faculty.
The Río Vena Campus houses the remaining buildings of the Higher Polytechnic School, the University School of Nursing (associate centre) and the University School of Social Education (also an associate centre)
